“Identical Twins”

Diane Arbus, “Identical Twins,” Roselle, New Jersey, 1967.

Its nearly Halloween so I thought a creepy image was appropriate! People on the sidelines, the ‘other,’ the ugly or just not mainstream were the subjects of Arbus’ work. She believed the camera to be a little cold, austere even, but that it always brought out the truth – whether it be what people want you to see or not. She had this uncanny ability to capture that which no one else seemed to notice, or highlight those that society tends to ignore. How thrilled she must have been to come across these two – reminiscent of a horror film some of you might have watched recently? (Here’s Johnny!!) (Original post to Instagram October 30, 2012.)
